Cricut Friday: Christmas Ornament #1

In my world, we can start talking about Christmas crafts now that Halloween has passed.  I wanted to share this ornament I created with the new Creative Memories/Cricut cartridge named Holiday Frames & Tags.  Don’t let the name fool you.  You can make lots of projects that have nothing to do with Christmas, but everything to do with birthday parties, other holidays and any event you can think of.  This cartridge is packed with 30 layered frames, 20 layered labels, 50 layered tags, 10 layered borders, rosettes, boxes, envelopes and three fonts.  Wow!

Let’s get going.  You need the following tools and supplies:

This ornament is the featured project in the booklet that comes with the cartridge.  I followed the instructions, but can offer some tips to make the process easier.  Choose papers that have some contrast, but still coordinate together so you will have a stunning finished piece.  When building the rosette, be patient and take your time to make crisp folds.  To keep the rosette together, punch out two small circles in the same paper and apply to the center of the front and back with hot glue.  These two circles apply even pressure so the rosette stays put.  I added the rhinestone because it didn’t look finished without it.

The ornament is 5″ tall and 4″ wide.  It would be a great addition to a gift or imagine a Christmas tree filled with different versions of this ornament.  It would be a fantastic way to use up your scraps.  How fabulous!  I enjoyed putting it all together and was happy that I mastered the rosette process.  Hmmm.  You might be seeing more rosettes in the future.  Stay tuned!

You can find the Holiday Frames & Tags cartridge and circle punch here.  Happy Christmas crafting!
